Throughout the entire LifeStream Basic Presentation, Jim Quinn never gave advice or told people how they should live their lives. Often, if a participant were sharing thoughts such as, “you should”, or “we should…”, Jim would say, “Let’s keep it in the first person, don’t share your diseases or philosophy with others.” It was one of his most admirable qualities, he was a pure facilitator, always drawing the answers out of the participant. Another of Jim’s comments was, “Where ever you are at, that’s ok!” You were never judged wrong or right, it was just where you were at and it was ok. Here are 5 clarifying questions Jim would always ask in class. They’re terrific self-introspective questions and I highly recommend them when you are seeking greater clarity about where you are at and where you want to go in life.
1. What do I want?
Recognize dreams, goals, desires.
2. What will that create in my life?
Look for results.
What will my life look like in five years?
3. How important is it for me to do something about it?
Look for urgency!
On a scale of one to ten how important is it?
4. When is the right time for me to do something about it?
Create urgency!
How will I know when it’s time for me to do something about it?
What will happen to let me know it’s time to do something about it?
5. What I am going to do about it?
Clarify changes: “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
What’s going to be different about my life?
What differences would my family, friends see and hear?
What am I going to do to make sure these changes occur and continue?
Take action! i.e. Do something.
What’s one thing I’m going to do differently, today, tomorrow, next week…?
